Our Leather

Our vegetable tanned leather steerhide is beautifully crafted in Japan exclusively for us. Our leather develops a patina over time so that our bags grow more beautiful as they age.

Leather Tanning Process
  1. Raw hides are sourced and put in tanning pits for one month with all natural mimosa powder bark. Only two tanneries in Japan still produce vegetable tanned leather in this traditional way

  2. The hides are then dyed

  3. The leather is dried

  4. Each hide is finished by applying oils, then sheen and softness is applied through machinery

Leather Care

Although our leather and products are tough and durable, they still need to be taken care of. We recommend lightly cleaning every part of the leather with a soft moist cloth, lightly brushing with a horsehair brush, and applying a leather moisturiser. This should be done every 6 months or more frequently if desired.
